Synopsis: The Cumbria Major Crimes team is under immense pressure to get results. DCI Harry Evans and his subordinates, DS Neil Chisholm, DC Lauren Phillips and DC Amir Bhaki must juggle cases while tragedy stalks them. Up in Glasgow, DI John Campbell is preparing to replace Evans, whose renegade ways have brought enforced retirement. Together they must investigate a man killed in his own home, a vigilante group chasing a suspected paedophile, a river dammed for no obvious reason and a woman whose cries of ‘wolf’ turn to ‘rape’. Meanwhile DC Phillips goes undercover off the books.

Noelle's Review: This was one of those books that had me breathless. We are introduced to DI Harry Evans and his team and there are no holds barred with the author. I literally felt liked I was smacked in the face by the amazing plot/sub-plots through out and was left wondering whether or not I could take any more!

The twists through out this book were true "OMG" moments and there were many! I am fast becoming a huge admirer of Cumbria's police force (MCT) and loving the "Gene Hunt" feel of DI Evans --a definite Ashes to Ashes vibe going on...old school police mentality mixed with the modern...LOVE IT!

The characters in this book definitely get under your skin--both the good and the bad qualities give you insight into where the character development is heading...yet you feel like Graham Smith (the author) still has more up his sleeve.

I am extremely excited to read the next DI Harry Evans book: Snatched From Home and highly recommend this book as a taster. Graham Smith you have truly WOW'd me!

Synopsis: Imogen and her friends Meredith and Nicola have had their fill of budget holidays, cattle-class flights and 6 a.m. offensives for a space by the pool. So when Meredith wins a VIP holiday at Barcelona's hippest new hotel, they plan to sip champagne with the jet set, party with the glitterati and switch off in unapologetic luxury. But when the worst crisis of her working life erupts back home, Imogen has to juggle her BlackBerry with a Manhattan, while soothing a hysterical boss and hunting down an AWOL assistant. Between a robbery, a run-in with hotel security staff and an encounter on a nudist beach that they'd all rather forget, the friends stumble from one disaster to the next. At least Imogen has a distraction in the form of the gorgeous guy who's always in the right place at the very worst time. Until, that is, his motives start to arouse a few suspicions.

  4. Synopsis: When a rapist is found mutilated in a brutal attack, Detective Kim Stone and her team are called in to bring a swift resolution. But, as more vengeful killings come to light, it soon becomes clear that there is someone far more sinister at work. With the investigation quickly gathering momentum, Kim finds herself exposed to great danger and in the sights of a lethal individual undertaking their own twisted experiment. Up against a sociopath who seems to know her every weakness, for Detective Stone, each move she makes could be deadly. As the body count starts to mount, Kim will have to dig deeper than ever before to stop the killing. And this time - it’s personal.

Noelle: As an author, what has been the worst or most unhelpful criticism you have had about your books/short stories?

Graham: I have been lucky enough to avoid any truly hurtful criticism although I am always expecting it to happen. I’m always waiting for the rejection slip or review where it’s suggest I have all my fingers cut off so I can never write again. On the flip side, before I interviewed him, I discussed reviews with Harlan Coben and he told me, “You’re not a writer until you’ve had a bad review.” Therefore when the inevitable one star review arrives I plan to treat it as a rite of passage.

Noelle:. DI Harry Evans is an interesting character to say the least. You once told me that he gets all his bad qualities from you.  Do you find your other characters have qualities drawn from people you know? (If yes, has anyone ever recognised themselves in one of your characters?)

Graham: No one has recognised themselves as yet, but I drew certain qualities from my father and grandfather while giving him my own short-tempered and impatient nature. There are also elements of Gene Hunt, Gregory House and Roberta Steel floating about in his DNA.

Synopsis: Heck needs to watch his back. Because someone’s watching him. Across the south of England, a series of bizarre but fatal accidents are taking place. So when a local businessman survives a near-drowning but is found burnt alive in his car just weeks later, DS Mark ‘Heck’ Heckenburg is brought in to investigate. Soon it appears that other recent deaths might be linked: two thieves that were bitten to death by poisonous spiders, and a driver impaled through the chest with scaffolding. Accidents do happen but as the body count rises it’s clear that something far more sinister is at play, and it’s coming for Heck too.

Synopsis: THEY WERE MARKED FOR DEATH. The last words Jamie Ball hears from his fiancée, Logan Somerville, are in a terrified mobile phone call. She has just driven into the underground car park beneath the block of flats where they live in Brighton. Then she screams and the phone goes dead. The police are on the scene within minutes, but Logan has vanished, leaving behind her neatly parked car and mobile phone. That same afternoon, workmen digging up a park in another part of the city, unearth the remains of a woman in her early twenties, who has been dead for 30 years.

At first, to Roy Grace and his team, these two events seem totally unconnected. But then another young woman in Brighton goes missing - and yet another body from the past surfaces. Meanwhile, an eminent London psychiatrist meets with a man who claims to know information about Logan. And Roy Grace has the chilling realization that this information holds the key to both the past and present crimes . . . Does Brighton have its first serial killer in over eighty years?
